The show has received widespread praise for its writing, strong female heroes and female friendships. It has carefully tackled issues of sexual assault and has earned a 93 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Non-comic book fans have been drawn to the show for its measured blend of social drama, action, and meticulously constructed 'detective' plots. It's a superhero franchise enjoyed by people who barely know what the Marvel franchise is.
Via GiphyLast month, Ava Duvernay announced that she would only hire female directors for her newest show, Queen Sugar. Some of those directors, Duvernay explained, didn't have any experience directing television, but she wanted to give them the opportunity.
Jessica Jones is scheduled to begin filming in November.
