【Candy Apples Archives】
Your favorite virtual band isn't going away for another seven years anytime soon.
Come 2018,Candy Apples Archives Gorillaz will take over the small screen with a new show focused on the lives of Murdoc, Russel, Noodle and 2-D.
SEE ALSO: Gorillaz announce their first North American tour in 7 yearsJamie Hewlett, creative director and co-creator of the band, broke the news in an exclusive interview with Exclaim. He explained that if all goes according to plan, 10 episodes will air next year, including two directed by him. Despite the band's exploration of various styles, the show is sticking to 2-dimensional animations.
"I think it's a beautiful style of animation," Hewlett told Exclaim. "Everybody does CG now, and it is great when you're making backgrounds, like environments and landscapes, but not the actual characters. I'm still very much inspired by the work of Chuck Jones, and I love that animation. It's art. I'd like to keep the characters in that style for the rest of this campaign. So the characters on the show will be 2D, but everything else is up for grabs."
Their latest album features a host of outstanding guests—and the television show might take a page out of that playbook as well.
"It could be real footage with real people talking to the characters," Hewlett said. "We'll have guest appearances in the series by various artists that appear on the album or whoever we happen to write into the series. Or it could be a mix of collage and photography and a bit of CG as well."
With a slew of merchandise featuring the bandmates on it's way too, all we can say is thank goodness it's still Gorillaz season for the foreseeable future.
