【Thriller Archives】
Quick! Think of a really famous musician. There's a pretty good chance the person you just thought of performed on Thriller ArchivesSaturday for the Global Citizen "One World: Together At Home" concert.
The event looked to entertain the millions of people stuck at home during the coronavirus pandemic, while also thanking healthcare workers on the front lines of the crisis. And there were a lotof stars who performed. An abridged list, in no particular order (takes a deep breath): Billie Eilish, Jennifer Lopez, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Sam Smith, Eddie Vedder, Celine Dion, Shawn Mendes, Camilla Cabello, Lizzo, Billie Joe Armstrong, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Elton John, Lady Gaga, Keith Urban, Kacey Musgraves, and John Legend.
It's pretty cool to see all these massive stars come together (metaphorically) and perform from their homes. Gaga herself put together the line-up and called the event "a love letter to the world."
The "love letter" was a collaboration between the antipoverty group Global Citizen and the World Health Organization (WHO), which has been at the center of the global fight against COVID-19. After the event completed, Global Citizen announced they'd received nearly $128 million in commitments to fight the coronavirus crisis.
If you want to watch the whole thing — which had countless cameos from famous folks like Jimmy Fallon, Oprah, and Stephen Colbert — you can find that here. Meanwhile, here is a quick round-up of just some of the stellar performances from the event.
1. Billie Eilish and Finneas nail their version of "Sunny"
2. Lady Gaga covers "Smile"
3. Taylor Swift went with "Soon You'll Get Better"
4. Somehow they got all the Stones together to do a classic. Also, God Bless him, Mick Jagger can still really sing. And Charlie Watts played air drums.
5. Elton John had an assist from David and Victoria Beckham. Also, Elton John has a basketball hoop? Nice.
6. Paul McCartney sent a heartfelt thanks to healthcare workers, called for leaders to improve the healthcare systems, then sang a beautiful version of "Lady Madonna"
7. John Legend (who flexed all of his many awards) teamed up with Sam Smith for a smooth version of "Stand By Me"
8. Billie Joe Armstrong sang "Wake Me Up When September Ends" to a video montage of empty city streets
9. Eddie Vedder sang "River Cross"
10. The Yeehaw Queen gave us an at-home version of "Rainbow"
11. Jennifer Lopez did a candle-lit "People"
12. Keith Urban covered "Higher Love" with... himself?
13. Lizzo absolutely belted "A Change Is Gonna Come"
14. Famous couple Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes teamed-up to cover "What A Wonderful World"
15. Just sit back and watch Stevie Wonder nail "Lean On Me." Seriously.
16. And finally: Celine Dion, Andrea Bocelli, Lady Gaga, Lang Lang, and John Legend joined together for an uplifting version of "The Prayer"
