William later posted an update saying that his aunt made a new rule that kids needed to pet the dog in order to receive some candy.

"He loves cuddling and running around in the yard. He's just an all around great dog who wants to love everyone around him. So to hear that people didn't want to pet him broke my heart," William told Mashable.
