In a development that feels totally undeserved,Dubbed that enterprising teen's Wendy's chicken nugget tweet seems to be on track toward becoming the most retweeted of all time.

They did not, however, offer a deadline for this challenge, which seems like a very significant oversight.

Now at 2,497,580+ retweets, it's well on its way to the Twitter hall of fame. At its current rate, it could de-throne Ellen DeGeneres, whose 2014 Oscars selfie holds the record for most retweets.

At 3,281,803 retweets, DeGeneres's tweet far surpassed the original record holder, Barack Obama, whose November 2012 election tweet is currently at 941,364.

But with just under 800,000 retweets to go, Wilkerson could take the lead any day now.

We've reached out to DeGeneres in case she cares to comment on her unlikely competition.
