Beloved adaptations like Batman Begins and The Dark Knightwill join Richard Donner's Supermanfilms on the service, along with animated favorites Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Green Lantern: First Flight, and Wonder Woman.
Available series include Batman: The Animated Series, Static Shock, Young Justice, Teen Titans, Lois & Clark and Wonder Woman ’77.
“DC Universe is so much more than a streaming service," said Jim Lee, chief creative officer and publisher, DC Entertainment, in a press release. "It’s a welcoming place for everyone to immerse themselves in their own level of DC fandom, with the epic characters, stories, and experiences they have come to expect from DC.”
But the main lure of DC Universe – and that's saying something for the platform that will finally let you stream The Dark Knight– is the comics. Available titles will date back to as early as 1938's Superman Action Comics, and titles will be downloadable for easy access. The DC name is synonymous with iconic comic book content, and having that in a comprehensive, curated database could do wonders for the publisher and its loyal fans.
“We are investing in and creating original, high-quality shows including the new Titansseries, and curating the most beloved nostalgic content, while at the same time elevating the comic reading experience to new heights," Lee added. "Nothing this robust has ever been offered to fans before.”
“We wanted the DC UNIVERSE comic reader to be a blend of art and technology that would further enhance fans’ experiences of the live-action and animated programming on DC UNIVERSE,” added Dan DiDio, publisher, DC Entertainment.
The site is now up and accepting signups for beta access, which will open in August. Mobile-friendly platforms will launch in fall.
